Dear AI Family | A Student Update and Mental Health Services
Dear AI Family,
It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Troy Davis, a tenth-grade student in our school, has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time. When we have more details about funeral arrangements and any other information the family shares, we will be sure to pass it along to our school community.
Troy was a remarkable young man. A member of our Early College Academy, Troy was an academically motivated individual. A polite young man, he was regularly seen with a smile on his face. This was true on and off the football field. He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and the entire school community. #ForeverATiger
Students have varied reactions to the death of a peer. Any reaction is normal in the grief process and can range from withdrawal to crying and anger. Regardless of how well you knew Troy, or perhaps you didn't know him at all, we encourage you and your peers to talk openly about your feelings.
The well-being of our students and staff is a top priority as we deal with the emotions surrounding this loss. Special counseling services are available to students beginning today (2/1/21) through Friday and into next week if needed. If you or a peer would like to access these services, please review the information below.
If you are an in-person learner, or would like to meet with a member of the crisis support team face to face, you have the following options:
- Report to Room 110 at any point when you are in the building
- Report to the Guidance Office located in the main hallway near the main office
- Ask your teacher to call (x312) and someone will come retrieve you from your class
