Dr. Curt Hinson, aka Dr. Recess, visited Highlands Elementary on March 28, 2018. His school assembly programs promote the importance of being active and healthy. Dr. Recess interacted with our children while teaching cooperative games to play at recess. Some of the games Dr. Recess taught included Guard the Cookie Jar, Hoop Guard and Hoop Ball. He was able to participate in outside recess for all grades despite the threat of rain. The benefits of the Dr. Recess program can include:
* Less conflicts at recess
* New & exciting games to play
* Fewer playground injuries through cooperative play
* Students learn social/emotional skills
Dr. Recess was able to visit our school through a mini-grant approved by the district wellness committee.
