Week of Celebrations and Caring at Highlands Elementary School
This week at Highlands Elementary there were many events to celebrate caring and sharing. The school is dedicated to celebrating being kind and caring about each other. The week started with the teachers being challenged to a decorate your door contest coordinated by the art teacher Mr. Simonavage. Many doors and hallways were decorated with care.
On Tuesday December 18th our music teacher Kara Villanelli and the music teacher from Warner Elementary, Emma Cooper, along with the Band/Strings teacher, Vince Adkins partnered together for a walking concert. Fifth grade students went to the Kentmere Rehabilitation facility to sing songs of holiday cheer. On Thursday December 19th, they will hold a concert at Warner Elementary for a winter concert. Songs include This Christmas, There Will Be Peace, Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, Silent Night, and more.
On Wednesday December 19th, students participated in a Positive Behavior Support event to create crafts to take home and share. Students who show positive behavior participated to create ornaments, necklaces, and candy canes. The made one craft to be given to the Kentmere Rehabilitation Center and Healthcare Center. The crafts will be taken over to the facility on Friday December 21st by students who were selected by raffle. The craft fair is an annual event at Highlands.
Also on Friday December 21st Grandparents and Grandfriends were invited to have breakfast with their students. Students were excited to have their family come to school and share in this special breakfast.
