Congratulations to Jane Delaney, RPLC/EYP's Teacher of the Year! JaneDelaney, an Autism support teacher, has been a teacher of special needs children for twelve years. Jane’s love for teaching started when she was in grade school, but her love for working with children with special needs developed during high school when she was given an opportunity at an inclusive preschool. She knew it took a special kind a teacher with a lot of patience and persistence to help these children reach their full potential. Jane began her career at Richardson Park Learning Center in 2005, teaching kindergarten and first grade in a self-contained classroom. A few years later, she pursued her master’s degree in reading and earned her reading specialist certificate. Over the years, Jane taught a few students with autism and developed an interest in their unique abilities. Jane followed this up by earning a certificate in Autism and Severe Disabilities from Wilmington University’s Graduate Program in New Castle, Delaware. Since then, she has been an Autism Support teacher for kindergarten through second grade students. Jane enjoys teaching this population of children. She says they keep her on her toes and allow her to continuously learn and implement research based autism specific strategies. Jane is thankful for the opportunity to be able to help shape their young, vibrant lives.
