BSS Academic Family Night
Brandywine Springs hosted a Family Academic Night on Thursday, January 23 that featured a variety of activities highlighting Reading, Math and Science.
Students were able to use dice and playing cards to build numbers sense and reading fluency. A fun reading nook was the perfect place to use their new bookmarks and finger flashlights and students were able to take a free book home. Everyone used their estimating skills to determine the number of lollipops, gumballs, and other items in a variety of containers. There was a take home seed experiment and free math flash cards given out.
Families were able to see life sized inflatables of a whale and a manatee presented by The Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation (DASEF) to bring an awareness and an appreciation not only of the beauty and size of these magnificent creatures but also to present ways to safeguard habitats and work across international borders. Students also were able to walk across the Earth Walk, a 16' x 20' high resolution satellite image floor map of the continental United States. True life colors of mountain ranges, rivers, ocean coastlines, watersheds, and the other geographic features of our country, as well as superimposed state boundaries are featured. First, students were encouraged to locate examples of the geographic features on the Earth Walk map.
Everyone enjoyed different ways to make learning fun and visit with our very own Bobby the Bobcat! Thank you to all of the staff for helping to organize and host this evening and our great custodial staff that went above and beyond to make the night a success.!
