• Dear Stanton Middle School Students and Families,

Welcome back to all of our returning students, and welcome to all of our newcomers to the Stanton Middle School family. I hope that all of you had a pleasant summer filled with fun and relaxation!

Please join us for our “Welcome Back To School BBQ” on August 21 from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. We hope you will make it, as we are planning a fun evening! See the attached flyer.

Important: The first day of school is August 26th for sixth grade only and August 27th for 7th and 8th graders. Breakfast and lunch are served daily and free of charge to all students.

Dress Code: Students are expected to wear khaki pants/skirt/dress and a solid color, collared, polo styled shirt with 2, 3, or 4 buttons. Please avoid purchasing shirts with a visible logo. No hats, scarves, or bandannas are to be worn in the building. All backpacks and book bags must be stored in the student’s locker. Students may utilize an approved Stanton Middle School drawstring bag to carry their Chromebook. The bag will be available for purchase during the back to school events.

Communication between parents and teachers is a critical element in the success of your child. We encourage you to contact your child’s teachers through email, written notes, telephone calls, or personal visits to the school. Please arrange in advance before you visit, so that teachers and translators, if needed, can be available to greet you. Periodically throughout the school year, parent conferences are held in the gym and no appointment is necessary! Translators will be available during those times.

Technology: All Stanton students will receive Chromebooks to take home for the school year. Parent release and insurance forms can be found in the main office. To fully access the chrome book’s features, insurance must be placed on the device. The cost is $20 and covers the Chromebook for loss or damage. If the insurance is not paid, or there is an outstanding obligation for previous loss or damage, certain features will be restricted until the obligations have been met.

School Supplies: To help your child be most successful, there are a few supplies that will be needed on the first day of school. Supplies are listed below.

Music Programs: The music department at Stanton Middle School is looking forward to another great year of performances! Band and Chorus at Stanton meet every day during Related Arts classes and have two evening concerts in the school gym during the school year as well as other ensemble and individual performance opportunities throughout the year. There will also be opportunities for after-school help for band and chorus students to improve upon their musical skills offered during the school year. If you are interested in your student taking part in Band or Chorus, please feel free to reach out to Abbie Seifert, our guidance counselor, at abbie.seifert@redclay.k12.de.us, or to Kendall Welschenbach, our Band and Chorus teacher, at kendall.welschenbach@redclay.k12.de.us . Looking forward to another great year of music!

AVID Strategies: Stanton Middle School has been an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school for several years. AVID is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills. This year, we have created the opportunity for more students to be exposed to the concepts. The Introductory AVID Strategies class will be offered during the Related Arts rotation at each grade level. Students who are in the class will have early exposure to the program.

    Dates to Remember:
August 26 – First Day for 6th Grade only
August 27 – All Students attend
    September 24 – Back to School Open House 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

A new school year is always an exciting time. It presents opportunities for various beginnings – new classes, new faces, new expectations, a busier schedule, and more choices. This school year will be a time for growth, challenge and adventure. Once again, I look forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year to provide a productive and safe learning environment that supports the highest levels of student success.

Welcome to Stanton Middle School, where Falcons SOAR!
