During this time of uncertainty, with children home from school, changing work schedules, and/or concern about illness, establishing some routines can help us cope. Meal planning is one way to help save time, money, waste, and trips to the grocery store. Establishing regular meal and snack times can also help us eat healthier and regulate our appetites. Good nutrition is not about being perfect but you can try to include some foods from the five food groups, including vegetables, fruits, whole grains, protein and dairy.
Try these 3 steps for successful meal planning:
- Make a menu for the week after checking to see what ingredients you already have on hand and what is on sale at your grocery store.
- Stock your cabinets and refrigerator with a variety of fruits and vegetables, including fresh, frozen, and canned.
- Keep a running list of the food you need as you use up grocery items.
