Title IX Grievance Procedures
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”), 20 U.S.C. §1681 et seq., is a Federal Civil Rights Law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in educational programs and activities.
Red Clay Consolidated School District does not discriminate on the basis of sex, nor does it tolerate discrimination on the basis of sex in its educational programs and activities.
Inquiries concerning potential discrimination on the basis of sex can be directed to the District’s Title IX Coordinator or the Office of Civil Rights.

The Red Clay Consolidated School District will take formal action for any violation of the prohibition against sex discrimination and/or harassment and provide “prompt and equitable” resolution of student and employee complaints.
Responsibilities of the Title IX Coordinator’s include the following:
- Overseeing all complaints of sex discrimination
- Identifying and addressing patterns or systemic problems that arise during the review of such complaints
Resolution Steps:
- Contact the building Principal to arrange a meeting to discuss the grievance.
- District-level and/or school-based Title IX Coordinator meets with alleged victim to discuss supportive measures and the process for filing a formal complaint.
- Formal written complaint should be filed by the alleged victim or his/her parent/guardian and submitted to the District Title IX Compliance Officer within 10 business days of the alleged violation to request an investigation.
- Title IX Investigator leads investigation after formal complaint is in place and written notice has been given to the involved individuals and their parents/guardians.
- Complainant and Respondent (and their parents/guardians) will be given an equal opportunity to review any evidence obtained that is directly related to the allegations raised in a formal complaint.
- An impartial determination is made as to whether the alleged conduct occurred, including sanctions.
- The Complainant may appeal the District’s decision to the District Title IX Coordinator within 10 business days of receiving the Title IX Coordinator’s decision. The Superintendent will review all statements and evidence and issue a written decision in response to the appeal no later than 30 days after its filing.
- After the Superintendent’s decision any party aggrieved shall have the right to file a formal complaint with the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights.
A Formal Complaint should contain:
- The child name, date of birth, home address and the school he/she attends
- Your name, address and phone number
- Your relationship to the student (parent, guardian, surrogate)
- Name, address and phone number of the person representing you (if you have someone)
- The basis of the complaint and description of the alleged discriminatory act. (date, involved parties, witnesses)
- Your signature
A Formal Appeal should contain:
- The child name, date of birth, home address and the school he/she attends
- Your name, address and phone number
- Your relationship to the student (parent, guardian, surrogate)
- Name, address and phone number of the person representing you (if you have someone)
- Schools decision with which you disagree and the reason
- Date of decision
- Your signature

Nondiscrimination and Section 504 Notice.
