The Red Clay Middle School Strings Program involves beginning and experienced students who play the violin, viola, cello or upright string bass. Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grades attend small group lessons during the school day once a week for up to 30 minutes. Performances include a Winter Concert and a Spring Concert. Combined rehearsals will be scheduled as needed. Opportunities for select students to participate in music festivals through the National Association for Music Education (NAfME)- Delaware Chapter- ie. All-State Orchestra- are available.
Red Clay District Middle School Orchestra (DMSO)
The Red Clay District Middle School Orchestra is open to experienced 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who demonstrate performance skills necessary for complex literature. Also, students demonstrate correct posture, left and right hand positions and seated position. Students are able to independently perform: Scales at an appropriate tempo and range, varied articulations, musical phrases and solos, and appropriate rhythms. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
