Resources for meeting hosts (teachers and administrators) when scheduling and running a Zoom meeting:
- Directions on scheduling a meeting - information on scheduling a recurring meeting
- With our premium accounts, we now have access to the Zoom phone numbers. You can send your Zoom phone number, meeting ID, and password to families that want to call in.
- Meeting Controls:
- Quick Guide: Zoom Meeting Controls
- Gallery View (displays up to 49 participants on a single screen) vs. Speaker View (switch the video window between who is speaking with 3 or more participants in the meeting) in Zoom
- Using Gallery View in Zoom can significantly slow down your internet connection.
- If you plan to use Zoom at home, test your internet speed by going to www.speedtest.net. If known bandwidth is higher than what the test shows, try moving to a new location for a better wireless signal and ask others sharing the internet to refrain from streaming content (Netflix, YouTube) while in class.
- On a slow Internet connection:
- Switch to Speaker View, or turn off video if possible.
- If students do not need to use their video camera or microphone, encourage them to turn them off to save bandwidth.
- Tips for Meeting Hosts:
- Participants using computers should use headphones with a microphone when possible.
- If you receive feedback during your meeting, click the "Mute All" button to mute the participants' microphones.
- Record your meeting session so you can share it with others later.
- Chromebooks can record sessions with our Zoom premium accounts. Recordings on Chromebooks are saved to the cloud. Teachers can share the link to the recordings with students and families.
- How to view and share Zoom Cloud Recordings
- Use the waiting room to prevent unwanted participants from joining your meeting. *As a default, waiting rooms are turned ON for Zoom hosts.
- Click the "End Meeting" button to end the meeting for all participants when it is over.

- Breakout Rooms - Pre-assigning participants to breakout rooms
- All You Need to Know About Using Zoom Breakout Rooms Blog Post
- To record Breakout Rooms, a user in each room must begin the recording.
- Users cannot self-select breakout rooms on Chromebooks.
- Nonverbal Feedback During Meeting
- Users can also share a Whiteboard to annotate on - the Whiteboard option in Zoom does not work on a Chromebook. However, teachers can share a whiteboard website instead. See our whiteboard website recomendations.
- Virtual Backgrounds - Virtual backgrounds do not work on Chromebooks.
- Use the Polling Feature to further engage students in your Zoom meeting.
- Use your cell phone during your Zoom meeting as a document camera. You will need to conduct your Zoom meeting on a Chromebook or computer, then connect your cell phone via the Zoom app to your Zoom meeting. Use the cell phone as a document camera.
- Share your Screen
Resources for students or any participant joining a Zoom meeting:
- Join as a participant to a Zoom Meeting - directions can be sent to students and are for participants using Chromebooks.
Zoom Restrictions for Hosts using Chromebooks:
- When hosts use Chromebooks to conduct their Zoom meeting, there are limitations on both the app and in the browser.
- Click here to read the information from Zoom's Help Center.
- The main limitations are that hosts cannot share a whiteboard, use the annotation tools, or use a virtual background. Teachers can still share browser screens though.
- Annotation tools DO work when using the Zoom app on an iPhone or iPad. Take a photo/screenshot of a blank screen or piece of paper and then share and annotate on that photo to simulate a whiteboard.
- As a work around, view the list of whiteboards and annotation tools that can used when sharing a screen in Zoom on a Chromebook.
